You can take your required Texas defensive driving course either online or offline in a classroom setting. I’m not sure why anyone would ever want to do this in a classroom, so I’m just going to cover the online schools. It’s pretty awesome that you can take traffic school online now. The courses are faster, easier, you can do it at your own pace, you can’t fail them, and it doesn’t cost any extra. Problem is, as of January 2013, there are 38 total state certified and approved driving schools in Texas. How in the world are you supposed to research 38 schools and pick the best one while still getting the best price? It would take hours to do that research! Well lucky for you, that’s what this website is all about. Not only do I supply you with a complete list of all the online traffic schools approved for Texas, but I have some recommendations and reviews as well.
Austin Texas Approved Defensive Driving Course Recommendations
I’ve got the full list of approved schools posted below, but first, I thought I’d give my personal recommendations. Each school I recommend has been around for at least 10 years, have had millions of students go through the course already, have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, have secure payment options, money back guarantees, and the courses are of the highest quality I could find for the state minimum prices. The state of Texas highly regulates the course pricing, so you won’t find much of a price difference between courses. Each school I recommend also has a link pointing to a very detailed and thorough review of that school.
Highest Recommendation: Aceable Online Defensive Driving For Texas
Aceable is one of the more recent courses to be approved in Texas, which I would normally consider a bad thing, but this course has very quickly become my favorite. This Texas based start-up company saw a problem in the online defensive driving industry. The entire industry has become outdated with poor quality courses that hardly work on mobile devices. Aceable decided to take full advantage of this problem by dumping millions of dollars into the most advanced and well built defensive driving course online. Not only is it the highest quality course, but it is the fastest course you are allowed to legally take and priced right.
Runner Up: iDriveSafely
This is one of the best online defensive driving courses you can sign up for and it’s the most widely used course as well with over 4 million people having taken the course already. iDriveSafely was one of the very first Texas driver safety courses approved by the state (the Texas Education Agency is the one who approves these courses). It’s high quality, the price is good, they’ve been around forever, they include graphics, animations, and video to spice things up a bit, and even include a video option if you’d rather watch your traffic school course instead of reading it. I’ve had this school listed on my site for over 2 years now and am still happy to recommend them. That in itself speaks volumes.
Third Runner Up: MyImprov.com
It’s important to note that I’m a sucker for humor. Traffic school, even when it’s taken online, is so boring. It feels like it takes forever, there’s a ton of reading, and we’re mostly told things we already know for 6+ hours. What a drag. This particular school was created by a bunch of Hollywood comedians and their goal was to make it as painless as possible by adding in humor throughout the course. That’s enough for me to recommend these guys. Now, not everyone is into the same kind of humor I am. So take a look at the below commercial Improv Traffic School made. If you don’t find this at least mildly amusing, you should probably go with another one of my recommendations.
Fourth Pick: GetDefensive.com
I decided to include this school for one main reason – they guarantee that they are the cheapest Texas defensive driving online course approved in the state. Granted, I don’t think the course quality is quite as good as my other recommendations, but if all you really care about is paying the cheapest possible price while still going through a reputable company, this is the school for you. Like the other schools, they’ve been in business for more than a decade. Both the company and the course itself are totally legit and is the best option if you’re looking for a cheap way to go about fulfilling your driving school requirements. Keep in mind, Texas regulates the pricing pretty heavily so you won’t find much of a price difference, but you might be able to save a few bucks.

Fifth Pick: DriversEd.com
This is a school I normally recommend for online drivers ed courses, but they have also been approved as a certified Texas driver safety course for ticket dismissal and point reduction. The only reason I didn’t list them higher is because traffic school isn’t their main business. Their main business is drivers ed while online traffic school is just a side gig for them. I also haven’t completed a detailed review on them yet. However, the course is very high quality, includes some very nice 3D graphics and animations to spice things up, and they’ve been around for a very long time. These guys know what they’re doing.
Honorable Mentions
The following courses that I’m about to mention are some of the lesser-known providers in Austin. Regardless, they offer some of the best services and features you can find in any online defensive driving course.
Approved Course — Texas Defensive Driving
Approved Course offers defensive driving courses in all areas of Texas. They can help with ticket dismissals, auto insurance discounts, and improving driver skills. This course can also help you knock a few points off your driver’s license if you’re dangerously near the limit.
With Approved Course, you have the choice between text- and video-based lessons — a feature that many students appreciate as it makes it easier for all types of learners to take the course.
Hate final exams? Well, good! Approved Course has zero final exams for their courses, meaning less stress and more learning for everyone!

Comedy Defensive Driving
If you’re looking for an alternative comedy traffic school, then you may want to take a look at Comedy Defensive Driving. They offer the shortest defensive driving course allowable by Texas state laws (5 hours). Plus they can help drivers with both ticket dismissal and insurance reduction issues.
They offer a 100% video course, meaning you won’t have to go through pages upon pages of reading materials. Simply log in and out on their website via your phone, desktop, or tablet.
Like Approved Course, they offer no final exams. However, they do have a couple of quizzes integrated into every chapter of the course.
Once you’ve completed your course, you’re given a digital copy of your completion certificate which you may download or print as you need.
