If you’ve recently found yourself with one too many tickets on your record, you’ve likely been given the opportunity to take a traffic school course in exchange for getting it taken off your record.
I’m sure you feel like the only person in the world who’s actually finding themselves forced to go back to traffic school due to your poor driving habits, but there are actually an overwhelming amount of people out there doing the same.
We all learned how to drive safely and responsibly in our teenage years, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t easy to get caught up in the everyday hustle and bustle and forget what we’ve learned.
We develop bad habits like speeding, forgetting to signal, and succumb to road rage when other drivers don’t do what we want them to.
We’re human, and we all make mistakes – it’s very common! This is where online traffic school comes in.
Want The FAST Answer? This Is The Best Online Traffic School To Sign Up For
Now, I’m probably not the first person to tell you that traffic school is boring.
There’s not a single person out there taking traffic school because they want to, and I’m sure you’re tired just thinking about having to go over all the same old information again.
I know, I know; it was boring in your teens, and it’ll be boring now.
I can’t make it fun for you (sorry!), but I can help you find the right traffic school for you at the best price possible – and hey, you might even find one that at least tries to make it entertaining!
What Is Online Traffic School & How Does It Work?
I’m sure some of you out there are familiar with the concept, but for those of you who are here for the first time, I’ll explain a little about online traffic school and it’s use.
You may be thinking that it’s the same as an online driver’s ed course (and in some ways, it certainly is), but it’s got some qualities about it that are just a little different.
Essentially, online traffic school is a course taken by individuals who have received a ticket for a moving violation, or (rarely) someone who wants a bit of a refresher course on safe driving practices.
No matter the reason, these courses are a great way to get a ticket removed or reduced, get points taken off your license, and can also be used to get a discount on your insurance – something that’s extremely handy if your premiums are high.
These courses teach a concept called defensive driving, which is learning to anticipate collisions and other risks of the road prior to the actual occurrence, and effectively making the road a safer place for everyone.
So, boring or not, they’re actually pretty cool!
Choosing The Course For You
Now, we have a whole list of reviews for different traffic schools that you could check out, but I also realize that your time is important, so I’ve taken the liberty of providing my favorite two from this list.
These have been picked based on criteria, attitude, and price to help you narrow it down.
While these are on two opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of attitude, they cover all the same criteria and have a pretty decent price point as well.
And, as if that wasn’t enough, we also offer coupons for both courses for you to use to help you out with the price a little if you want it. We’ll start with the more standard course of the two.
Aceable
Aceable is one of the more recent online traffic schools to hit the market, but it has quickly become a favorite.
Backed by former Twitter investors with millions of dollars in funding, they created the single best online traffic school to ever become available.
The only downfall of this course is they are still working on approvals for a lot of states. You can check their website to see if they are approved in your state yet.
The main reason we recommend Aceable is because it is the most modern course available at one of the lowest price points available and their customer service is second to none.
If you have an issue, they will make it right. While it might not be available in your state, if it is, this is our top choice.

iDriveSafely
This course has two options, depending on your state and preference: text and video.
While the video course does have a slightly higher price point due to the media aspect of it, it definitely makes the course a little more tolerable – especially for those who absolutely hate reading about boring subjects, i.e. driving safety and regulations.
They make finding your state simple and have pricing available for you right up front, telling you what you’re going to pay for the course as soon as they know what state you’re in.
The length of the course is going to depend on your state as well because each state has differing requirements for taking traffic school.
Some can be done with it in an hour, whereas some states require at least six hours.
The best news about all of the options, however, is that you can make your own schedule and complete the course in the most convenient way for you.
There is an exception, however – if the county issuing the ticket requires the use of timers, you have to take the course in a certain amount of time in order for it to pass in court.
The good news about this is that they’re usually upfront about it if this is the case, and if you’re not sure, you can contact the court or your local DMV to get more information.

Improv Traffic School
I mentioned before that some traffic school courses try to make it fun, and I wasn’t yanking your chain – it’s true!
If you still don’t believe me, try out Improv Traffic School to see what I mean.
They’ve coined the term ‘edutainment’ to describe their method of teaching, and they certainly live up to that description – even their commercial had me rolling!
Unfortunately, there is one downside; they aren’t yet available in every state.
However, they make it super simple to determine whether your state is eligible for the course, and from there signing up is quick and easy.
Their price point varies per states as well, and as soon as you choose your state, a link to pricing will appear at the top of the page.
As with iDrive Safely, the course length will vary depending on your state, as well as the necessity of timers.
If you aren’t required by your state to take the course within a set amount of time, you can typically get the certificate of completion within as little as thirty minutes, or you can spread it out to better fit into your schedule.

All of these courses teach you everything you need to know about road safety, varying conditions, your vehicle, and the traffic laws specific to your state, and provide you and the courts with your certificate of completion to show you really did suffer through and complete the course.
So, which course would you choose? Personally, I think Improv is better suited for me, but everyone processes information and learns differently.
Either way, you can rest assured that each will give you the best defensive driving education available, at some of the best prices around.
Each has earned a five-star rating from Drive-Safely, and are regarded highly in states in which they are available. What better reason to pick a traffic school?
How Long Does Online Traffic School Take?
The duration of online traffic schools varies depending on the state you’re in. However, it’s hardly any different from the required number of hours you have to complete if you take the course in-person.
The difference is that with an online traffic school, you can have complete control as to how fast or how long you would like to finish your lessons. There’s an exception though if your state requires course timers as this can limit your flexibility to finish the course as fast as you can.
With an online course, you can take all of the required four to eight hours of lessons in one sitting. It if gets boring, you can exit the course whenever you want. Most online course providers will have the auto-sync feature, getting you back to the last lesson you were in. You can even use a different device.
Meanwhile, if you’re hoping to finish the course as fast as you can, I have this useful tip for you – sign up with a provider that offers a text-only course.
Yes, it can be a lot more boring than your other options. But if you’re in a hurry, you can breeze through any text course by continuously scrolling down (or swiping left/right) until you reach the end of the course. You won’t need to watch long videos.
If you’re worried about not being able to answer the questions in the final exam, don’t worry because you can easily go back and search for the answers in no time.
These courses are more affordable, too.
So long story short, the amount of time you’ll spend in completing an online traffic school will depend entirely on you (unless, again, course timers are required!). But if you want to finish the course fast, sign-up with a text-only course.
