People are doing more and more things online these days, and why not? Technology, the Internet, and all the fancy gizmos have advanced to the point that almost anything and everything is accomplishable from smartphones, tablets, and laptops. For instance, some folks handle their shopping needs without ever leaving the comforts of home. Many people even join thousands of other players to play video games without ever meeting face-to-face. The possibilities appear to be endless, and things show no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Of course, the defensive driving industry, like so many others, wasn’t going to be left behind. Now, it is possible to sign up for West Virginia online traffic schools for insurance reduction purposes or if you receive special permission from a West Virginia court.
It is always a good idea to check with your local DMV or county clerks office to make sure they accept online traffic schools. Failing to do so could turn into a nightmare quickly. You will likely do a substantial amount of coursework only to find out that it doesn’t count towards your requirement. The powers that be may even mandate that you attend an in-person class.
Please note that online traffic schools are generally not accepted in West Virginia to complete defensive driving courses for ticket dismissal purposes.
Most people don’t want to spend the majority of their day cooped up in a room full of strangers. Nor do they want to listen to an instructor lecture them over what they did or what they should be doing while behind the wheel. The same materials are covered regardless of which path a person takes. Expect to learn about topics such as…
- West Virginia Traffic Laws
- Consequences Of Drinking Or Using Drugs And Operating A Vehicle
- Defensive Driving Techniques
- Proper Ways To Share The Roadways
- Safe Driving Practices

Any driver who completes the approved Defensive Driving Course (DDC) will have three points removed from the overall total, regardless of the number of points currently on their record. If the driver has a points suspension for 14 or more points already created on their record, the suspension will not be rescinded or affected by the DDC, the driver must serve the suspension and pay the reinstatement fee.
If the driver has an impending 30-day point suspension (12 to 13 points) and can submit proof of completion of the Defensive Driving Course and the reinstatement fee PRIOR to the effective date of the suspension, the 30 Day Suspension will be rescinded.
The Defensive Driving Course may only be taken once every twelve months for point reduction. You can not use the Defensive Driving Course for point reduction if you take the class prior to points appearing on your record.
